We went out on Thanksgiving once in territory which hadn't been worked in a year. People were pissed we were disturbing them. I never went out on Thanksgiving again. I tried Christmas once too and found the same thing--only worse. People are really pissed when you disturb them on Christmas. I agree with the poster above, most people avoided going out on those days so as not to antagonize people. The last couple years I was in I began to realize that JW's aren't spreading the message as much as blackening Jehovah's name in people's minds. Very few people respect what JW's do, they are usually annoyed by it. I don't see how that could be considered a beneficial result to evangelism.

WT Society Appoints Elders/MS Based on " Functions " Performed - not ....
by flipper in........... holy spirit or any " fruitages of the spirit " like love, kindness, mildness, meekness , etc.
shown by men considered for elder or ms positions.
qualities or true positive character traits are not that important to the wt society in appointments of these men in jw congregations.. no, the real " qualifications " that a jw man needs to exhibit is being able to report 10 hours a month in knocking on people's doors offering wt and awake magazines !

My hubby is PYRAMIDSCHEME. He left due to the treatment he received after working so hard to reach out. He's been on this website for a couple years now. He had a good friend who is an elder that used to tell him horror stories about the bureaucracy and good-ol-boys club that is the elder body. After that Pyramid just couldn't bring himself to be a part of it.

Undercover--that 'elder' was speaking out of hand. Even the WTS doesn't claim to know how god will judge suicides since there are usually extreme emotional issues involved.
I have had a few people tell me how disappointed my parents will be when they are resurrected and I am not there. It pisses me off because I don't believe that shite anymore. I keep wondering if their souls are looking down on me thankful I have left the pack of lies that is the WTS.

by DaCheech ini don't know if anyone has commented much on this.. there are a select few being invited to this meeting.. ours was at stanley theatre.. as far as i know older ones, pioneers, and selected worthy were invited.. even children were not allowed.
they think this is going to create the desire to be the "worthy ones"?.
yes, but to some it could backfire on them..

My husbands friend, an elder, went to some special meeting at his assembly hall in California. He called it "History making." Sounds like it was mainly about sticking to the faith. Not allowing doubts to creep in. Nothing about any new dates for armageddon, though.

My mother died when I was 19 after an extended illness. For the last week of her life she was in the hospital slipping away. I knew she was dying and didn't want her to die alone so I stayed in the hospital 18 hours a day, catching cat naps in the waiting room and being by her side whenever I could. A week after her memorial service, there was a local needs regarding proper conduct in the hospital. We were counseled to dress in meeting clothes when visiting friends and family as that was a good witness to hospital staff. "Recently there have been reports of young people horsing around in the cafeteria and sleeping in areas of the hospital reserved for visiting family." I was so shocked and hurt I didn't really know how to respond. But that was nothing compared to the rumor that went around the congregation that I was happy my mother was dead. Or the other rumor, that she was dead because we didn't take proper care of her.
This is when you ask, "Why the F*#@ did you stay in that religion for another 20 years?" Because I wanted to see my mother again and that was the only way I had been taught I could.

Why Women Are Treated Second Class In This Organization?
by AvocadoJake inthe best bible scholars have been women in my realm of this religious world.
the women study their husbands watchtowers, prepare the parts, write their talks, put their ties on, get the shave cream out of their ears.
it must be hard and you must have the patiences of job, to be able to listen to, the many arrogant men and how you will (if you are a female annointed.

No, that's for sure. His disciples were all men. I remember one elders wife commenting that the women who followed Jesus and his disciples around were there to wash their underwear. They were all part of a patriarchal society, but Paul is the one who says, "a man should not touch a woman," and "I do not permit a woman to teach," and "Women should keep silent" or "question their own husbands." Jesus did not address women's roles as thoroughly as Paul and Jesus was loved by many women.

I've actually heard it said that Paul didn't like women. He never got married and it is his teachings that defined women's roles in the christian church. The longer I am away the more I see Christianity is based largely upon Paul's teachings and not Christs.

From the perspective of a 'sister' who watched every male relative struggle and get humiliated again and again by the procedure, here are my experiences:
FATHER--Legendary speaker, full time pioneer, elder for decades and presiding overseer. Until he moved into a hall where an ex circuit overseer presided. My father was never a yes-man or team player. He was removed as an elder and never reappointed from the time he was about 43 until he died at 76. He would ask year after year to be reappointed and they would say he was too arrogant. He knew too much for his own good. He needed to be more of a team player. His death is what finally forced me out of that F*#king organization
BROTHER #1 & #2--both my brothers would spend their lives trying to kiss up to a group of men who would let them gain some privileges only to snatch them away for any perceived wrong: dozing off during attendant duties after working double shifts, playing music on the car stereo during coffee break while out in service, allowing their sister (me) to go to a pool party where there was underage drinking, having his wife sit with him while handling the sound, the list goes on and on. Basically it was the elders way of keeping them so humiliated they would beg forgiveness for breathing and do whatever was asked of them. To this day, they are still in, still doormats, and completely unaware of just how miserable it makes them.
MY HUSBAND--Always fulfilled everything asked of him: sound, mikes, literature, attendant, parking, etc. He even ran the magazine dept when the MS he was appted under had some meltdown and fled the congregation. His only problem was he is an introvert. He turned in 10 hours every month, but he only commented 2 or 3 times a month. He gave excellent talks and was such a good reader he was used for the Watchtower but his placements didn't reflect a productive ministry. And that is what got him passed over in the end--he should have been handing out their stupid literature...or at least lying about it.
You gotta have the right personality and the right connections to make it very far in that cult.

I've always been a hard studying student. I remember being in my 20's and receiving a 'shepherding call' from a couple elders. I realized I knew more than they did. My knowledge was more profound than theirs. I remember having to sit silent in a meeting rather than contradict a brother who had made a wrong comment. Brothers would get opportunities to go to Bethel or MTS school or theocratic ministry school--while I used my knowledge to knock on not-at-homes and make comments. I loved giving talks because it was the one time I could really shine because the vast majority of people, it seemed, had no speaking ability or reasoning ability or writing ability. After reading and studying everything published by the WTS, including the Insight books, I realized there was 'nothing new under the sun.' So many people in that organization never bother scratching the surface so they are always abundantly 'fed' spiritually with the same message over and over again. It used to irritate me at book study when it was so imperative a brother read that we would have to sit through an awful reading by a nearly illiterate brother rather than let a sister read. Sisters were always better readers!
